I am a freelance wildlife artist and sculptor based in the English Lake District. During the last 35 years, I have travelled to many remote environments around the world, sketching from life and documenting the animals I have had the privilege to witness. Over the last six years I have concentrated on producing foundry bronze limited editions which have been exhibited and sold in London, Paris, Moscow and America.
My intention in this blog is to show my field sketches and work in progress as well as showing work by artists who have influenced me or work that I like...

Living in the foothills of the Pennines, we get some weather... lots of it!
A few weeks ago, as did much of the UK, we had a few inches of snow. It was enough to cover the fields and reveal the wanderings of animal and bird and I snapped these prints of badger, hare, pheasant and blackbird. I love prints in the snow. They are beautiful and tell their own special story.

badger fore paw showing elongated claws used for digging and grubbing up food.

Hare prints showing longing stride of a lolloping hare.

The hare was travelling towards the viewer. The two long prints together are from the back feet put down after the front paws.

Pheasant prints crossing right to left over hares

blackbird

In march last year I painted this study of a dead hare found on the road. She was carrying two babies not fare off being born. It was very sad.

Roe Buck head • life sized bronze

This piece of work was sculpted last year and the first sculpture to receive this orange, mottled patination. It was exhibited for the first time at the CLA Game Fair and was received very favourably. Since then we have sold a third of the limited edition of 24, which is very encouraging. It can be seen at the following galleries in the UK.
